Potomac Rambling Bares essential information

(See the frequently asked questions page for more information)

Our Organizational Structure:
We are a member-run organization, staffed entirely by volunteers. We elect a Board of Directors comprised of up to nine members who make policy and fiscal decicions about the club. The Board of directors consists of 4 elected officers: President, Treasurer, Membership Chair, and Activities Chair; and 5 Directors-at-Large. General membership meetings are held 3 times a year.

Overview of Bares Activities:
The Bares explore the varity of nude recreation available within one to several hours drive of our greater Washington base. We try to schedule at least one activity each and every month year-round, and most activities are attended by 10 to 15 or more members. Our largest events are the annual PRB Birthday Party and Corn Roast in July or August, and our Super Bowl party in early February. During the summer and sometimes in other seasons, we schedule visits to clothing optional clubs, resorts, and beaches, such as one at Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Many Bares are also members of one or more of the landed nudist clubs locally or in other parts of the country where they vacation.

History of PRB:
PRB was formed in 1984 by a group of people who enjoyed participating in and introducing others to the joys of nude recreation. Two active nudists, Roger Bishop and Frank Beach, got together and hatched a plan to bring a longtime dream of Roger's to reality. On July 22nd the Rambling BARES of Northern Virginia held their first event at Roger's home in Triangle, VA with about a dozen members.

Since then the name was changed to the Potomac Rambling Bares, and the club grew to more than 80 members (our current membership is about three dozen). We adopted a logo, incorporated in the State of Virginia, become an AANR club, and became one of the most active and enduring non-landed clubs in the country.

As a non-landed club we do not own a facility or property, but enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at members' homes during the winter months and outside in the extended summer. We schedule many visits to local landed nudist clubs, and clothing optional beaches and other sites, weather permitting.

Our membership extends from Baltimore, Maryland to Fredericksburg, Virginia, and sometimes west into West Virginia's eastern panhandle. Most of our members live within a 25 mile radius of Washington, DC.

Benefits of Membership:
PRB, in accordance with AANR principles, maintains ethical standards of behavior in a wholesome, friendly atmosphere that promotes positive attitudes toward body acceptance and self esteem. Our clothing optional policy for most activities makes them ideal for the nervous first timer or hesitant partner. As the atmosphere is always warm & friendly, it rarely takes long for a new comer to "bare" with us. Membership is by invitation only. Families, couples, single men and women are welcome to contact us for more information and to arrange for their first visit, after reviewing our "How Can I Join the Bares?" page.
